As one article explains: “One of the reasons why these jump teams are the key to the chain’s success is because employees may not be able to work if they’re dealing with their own hurricane damage.” These teams are made up of folks who work at Waffle Houses outside the area affected by a storm, who show up to run the restaurant as soon as the worst has passed. But the real secret to keeping restaurants open through thick and thin is the Waffle House “jump teams.” It’s also possible because of some of the fine qualities I listed above, such as their simple menu, small scale, low staffing needs, and close proximity to other locations. Some of this is based on diligent preparation and supplies: the company anticipates storms and makes sure locations in the path are well-stocked with food and gas generators. The Waffle House Index has three designations: green indicates a restaurant that is open and serving its full menu yellow is one that is open and serving a partial menu red means the restaurant is closed and probably destroyed.īecause if it is possible for a Waffle House to stay open, it will. Apparently, WaHo is known for staying open during hurricanes even when everything else is closed down. Unbeknownst to me during all those years, there is actually something called the “Waffle House Index,” developed by the Federal Emergency Management Agency. The surfaces of every Waffle House are covered in a thin film of grease, which is part of the authenticity and charm.Īnd they only serve breakfast food – what’s not to love? These last two weeks, as Hurricanes Harvey and Irma descended, I learned another very significant thing to respect about Waffle House. They serve food on old-school Corningware dishes, and the servers and the cooks yell back and forth about the orders. Waffle Houses are all the same basic small box with a grill, a counter, and a few booths. My church youth group had a tradition of gathering there after midnight mass on Christmas Eve.įourth, it’s not pretentious. We went to Waffle House after football games, after prom, after concerts. I could usually take down a waffle or two, a generous serving of hash browns, and a bottomless cup of coffee for just a few bucks. My allowance in high school could go a long way there. Every road trip in the Southeast is punctuated by at least one WaHo stop. I grew up basically right in the middle of the orangey-yellow blob filled with red dots representing Waffle House locations.Īs such, I spent a lot of time in various Waffle Houses as a teenager, and when I returned to Tennessee for several years after college.įirst of all, it’s ubiquitous: there is a Waffle House at almost every freeway exit throughout the South. As you can see from the map, the majority of WaHos in the country are clustered thickly in the South. If you grew up west of the Mississippi River, you may be unfamiliar with Waffle House (known familiarly as WaHo). One big downside to living in the Bay Area is that our closest Waffle House is 641 miles away, in Goodyear, Arizona. With the carnival party game, all kids are a winner of at least one additional prize! Also, children look for the colored mark on the bottom of their sucker and choose the prize that corresponds to the color on the bottom of thier lollipop. For example, have a small bucket with a sign that says "Blue End Sticks Prize, Red End Sticks Prize etc.)Įach player chooses a lollipop from the lollipop tree. Every player gets to keep the lollipop they choose. Step 3- Push a dowel into the wrapped styrofoam. Wrap them the best you can, but they don’t have to be perfect, because the cellophane will cover the imperfections pretty well. Step 2 Wrap styrofoam circles with colored tissue paper. Allow them to dry, then cut the dowels to desired lengths. Place lollipops in the garden pots and have prize buckets with the prizes marked by color. Step 1- Spray paint the wooden dowels white. How to Play the Lollipop Garden Party Game:īefore the carnival, use the sharpie pen and mark the bottom of all suckers a different color. Return your pencil back to the center point and draw another rounded line that goes out to the edge of the board about 3 inches away from the first line. Make a center dot in the middle of the circle, and draw a rounded line out to the edge of the poster board. Mini Swirl Lollipops (one for each child) Supplies for Carnival Party Game - Lollipop Garden : Luka's an amazing player but he's a career 33.7% three point shooter and he only shot 35.3% on threes last year. Free Throws are pretty easy to shoot this year (given you have a 70+ rating), so learning to time them is easy.I'm curious about this. Either way, none actually result in a faster jumpshot, just the amount of time you have to time the shot. This is personal, but guard would probably do better on early or very early, whereas big men would probably benefit from late. We like layup timing because it’s actually pretty easy, and you get crazy boosts with it, too. If you play online, you’ll at least have to put on shot timing. Online, it’s delayed, and you only need a few hundred shots in the Practice Facility to learn no-meter shooting. We haven’t used the shot meter in years, and you shouldn’t either. Here are our best recommendations for these settings: There are several new settings that affect your jumpshot in NBA 2K23, most of which are focused on giving you a personalized shooting experience.
After Sonic 06, Sonic Boom Rise of Lyric, Sonic Forces and Sonic Colors Ultimate, SEGA released another game riddled with bugs and low quality. Pc port is better than sonic mania's, but still not possible to go above 60 fps.ġ5h 10m PlayedHave you ever heard of a game where the developer had to save its integrity on Twitter and call out the publisher for how rushed, unfinished and buggy the final build of the game is? No? Well, then you're in for a ride. It's a shame some original music is missing, but I didn't have any memories of that music so I can't say how much it takes away from the experience. The price is a bit much so grab it on sale. 8.5/10 Sonic Cd: Didn't want to play this one. The final boss is three phases and once again requires an annoying amount of precision. The level design feels a generation ahead. 7/10 Sonic 3: A substantial improvement over Sonic 2. The boss demands that you be pixel perfect and that got super frustrating. The final boss detracted from the experience, I had no rings and had to be perfect for two phases in a row. I did find the music super annoying on one level, and found another level to be pretty frustrating. 6/10 Sonic 2: A big improvement over Sonic 1. It still has charm and great music, but the two sequels are far ahead of it. I didn't use the traditional lives settings, but used the infinite lives coin based option. Also I noticed that you cannot damage the bosses straight away like you could in the originals - this will probably annoy speedrunners - I got used to it and it added more challange rather than just being able to spam hit the boss at the start of each fight.ġ3h 24m PlayedMy first time completing the 2d sonic games. You can always listen to those tracks through another device and play along. Although one negative is that some of the great Sonic 3 tracks have been replaced (probably to do with the Michael Jackson rights). Overall, this feels like a labour of love for the classic Sonic games and is a great way of repalying the games in a new way. Also you can unlock cheat menus for each game and in Sonic 1 this allows Sonic 2 and 3 power ups to be used - although I feel you should play through the games without cheats at first for a satisfying challenge. Missions for each game have been included and they are kind of like the NES Remix games that came out on the Wii U and 3DS. There are boss rush modes for each game which are great fun. Back in the day Sonic 1 and 2 did not have a save function and the third game in the series introduced saving but it would only save at the start of a new zone - if you could not get through act 2 of a zone you would have to play through act 1 again. The anniversary editions make some quality of life improvements such as saving automatically at checkpoints so you can come back at a later point and continue. Despite popular opinion I never really enjoyed the Sonic 2 special stages, but they have had a nice graphical improvement, but I still do not enjoy playing them. I always enjoyed attempting to collect all the Chaos emeralds through the special stages in the classic Sonic games with Sonic 3 and Knuckles being my favourite. The coins can also be used to retry bouns stages if you fail - I feel this is a good addition as the bonus stages can be frustrating as if it is easy to fail if you accidently mess up even slightly. Coins can be used to unlock bonus items such as music, videos and pictures in the museum mode. The coins add to an overall total across each game. Anniversary mode allows for the collection of coins rather than lives. 24h PlayedDefinitive way to play these classics. Annette O'Toole is always a pleasure to watch, even if her character is annoying. That folks is the big cliff hanger for the season!!ĭuring a recent illness, I was laid up for several weeks, and this was a pleasant, undemanding way of passing the time. The one good scene of the season is when Charmaine admits to Jack she lied, the twins aren't his after all. Geeeeeeze Louise how much can we viewers take? Somehow, thrown in with all this whining, Brady is arrested, Bree has been sexually assaulted by her ex coworker and moves in with Jack, Christopher gets kidnapped for most of the season, all the while more whining and no real action taking place. Mel whines at Jack because he should want to know too. Jack whines another several episodes about Mel wanting to know who the father of her child(ren) is. Jack and Mel makeup, then Mel springs on him the fact she's pregnant but doesn't know who the father is. Mel gets upset with Jack and decides to go to the doctor and have her two frozen embryos from her deceased husband implanted. Jack is upset with Charmaine because he got her pregnant with twins. There's no plot just a bunch of whiners whining all the time. Did no one writing this script think to do some research?! The most absurdly far fetched storyline I have ever seen. Literally could take weeks before that can happen. Secondary, you can't just pop into your doctors office and get implanted. Firstly, they will ALWAYS make sure you aren't pregnant before any procedure like that. She's now pregnant and not sure who the father could be. Mel, goes to LA for a couple of days to be at her sisters side but then remembers she has some frozen embryos and, on a whim, decides to get them implanted. Preacher stuck picking up pieces and looking after a child of someone he never dated. Hope not being around this season was actually the only good point. The only doctor and nurse in Virgin River but they are literally NEVER at work. Charmaine is having twins, bought her baby items, booked her hospital room, met someone and got married but she still have NO clear baby bump. It's been 3 seasons but it appears that only 3 months have past. But there are so many better shows out there now that we just aren't going to invest any more time in Virgin River. And the acting is pretty good, especially Alexandra Breckenridge, Martin Henderson, Colin Lawrence and Tim Matheson. We're disappointed in the decline in quality because we really wanted to like it. The sudden fire at Jack's house is also completely unbelievable in this day and age of mandatory smoke detectors (especially in California!) that would have gone off and warned them well before any fire could have developed as far as it did. Again, the character of Charmaine is totally unbelievable - engaged after three weeks? Still not showing? Come on. But we tuned in to season 3 right when it was available and were so turned off by the first episode that we are not going to continue. We eagerly waited for season 2 and enjoyed it, for the most part, but some of the plot twists were starting to feel contrived and Charmaine's character was increasingly unbelievable (she has never looked pregnant) not to mention annoying. We really enjoyed season 1 and became invested in the characters. In the books, we connect with characters, we root for them, we get those happy payoffs. Instead, with a continued focus on Mel and Jack, we get an endless supply of contrived drama. If the script writers stuck with that, and moved the story along to focus on different people and issues in progressive seasons, it may have worked better. This came to the screen with a built in fanbase because Carr's books are best sellers. The lead character who could be admired is now just annoying. now we cry and wallow and OMG I am at ep 9 and I think I'll have to skip to the end of the finale because I can't take anymore. now she creates problems, creates unnecessary drama in her relationship, constantly feels sorry for herself - for the same issues she spent season one overcoming - and showing us that yes, you can get up again and make a life and be happy - but no. She was the brave plucky nurse, moving to the small town, opening her heart, making a difference. Is there a contest going on to see which character can be the most annoying? If there is, Mel wins, hands down. In other words, if you were to draw a circle around a vertex, it would include a corner of each shape touching at that vertex. All the shapes are joined at a vertex.Shapes are combined using a transformation.(It was Escher who determined that a proper tessellation could have no gaps and no overlaps.) Patterns are repeated and fill the plane.A plane of tessellations has the following properties: Here we consider the rigid motions of translations, rotations, reflections, or glide reflections. Tessellation Properties and TransformationsĪ regular tessellation means that the pattern is made up of congruent regular polygons, same size and shape, including some type of movement that is, some type of transformation or symmetry. When a number divides another number evenly, there are no remainders, like there are no gaps when a shape divides or fills the plane.Įscher went far beyond geometric shapes, beyond triangles and polygons, beyond irregular polygons, and used other shapes like figures, faces, animals, fish, and practically any type of object to achieve his goal and he did achieve it, beautifully, and left it for the ages to appreciate. The idea is similar to dividing a number by one of its factors. He experimented with practically every geometric shape imaginable and found the ones that would produce a regular division of the plane. Escher became obsessed with the idea of the “regular division of the plane.” He sought ways to divide the plane with shapes that would fit snugly next to each other with no gaps or overlaps, represent beautiful patterns, and could be repeated infinitely to fill the plane. The Dutch graphic artist was famous for the dimensional illusions he created in his woodcuts and lithographs, and that theme is carried out in many of his tessellations as well. These movements are termed rigid motions and symmetries.Ī good place to start the study of tessellations is with the work of M. The topic of tessellations belongs to a field in mathematics called transformational geometry, which is a study of the ways objects can be moved while retaining the same shape and size. We will explore how tessellations are created and experiment with making some of our own as well. There are countless designs that may be classified as regular tessellations, and they all have one thing in common-their patterns repeat and cover the plane. These two-dimensional designs are called regular (or periodic) tessellations. It may be a simple hexagon-shaped floor tile, or a complex pattern composed of several different motifs. Repeated patterns are found in architecture, fabric, floor tiles, wall patterns, rug patterns, and many unexpected places as well. In this section, we will focus on patterns that do repeat. What's interesting about this design is that although it uses only two shapes over and over, there is no repeating pattern. Notice that there are two types of shapes used throughout the pattern: smaller green parallelograms and larger blue parallelograms. The illustration shown above (Figure 10.101) is an unusual pattern called a Penrose tiling. You are allowed to make notes and other marks on the sudoku printable. I recommend using a pencil with an eraser, since it's quite typical when solving sudoku puzzles to make a few errors along the way. (See the sudoku puzzle image at left as an example.)Īs I mentioned above, you need to enter a single digit 1 through 9 in each of the 81 small squares in the puzzle. The grid is further subdivided into 3-by-3 boxes. These small squares are also known as cells. Sudoku puzzles consist of a large square divided into a 9-by-9 grid. Every sudoku puzzle has only a single solution. The puzzle is solved once you have filled in all the small squares following this rule. Enter a number 1 through 9 in each cell of the puzzle such that no number is repeated in any row, column, or 3-by-3 square. You'll learn advanced techniques such as Ghosting, RC Counting, Tagging, and Line Checking. Note: To learn powerful strategies for solving sudoku, see Kevin Rush's free guide here.
